Salacious has 2 new outfits

When we went to Disney World over the Thanksgiving holiday, I picked up this awesome Salacious Crumb.   I think Disney has quickly learned how to market to Star Wars fans.   I could not resist when I saw Crumb sitting by a register wearing a very princess like pink tiara.   I bought both.

Every now and then, I get bored and create new outfits for him.   First off, he got the tacky Christmas sweater.  This year's sweater will be much tackier.  I just didn't have enough time to make it super tacky.

Now he has his tea time outfit and a Valentine sweater.  I have been trying to think of different outfits that I could create.  I am kind of leaning toward something out of the Village People.   Maybe a cowboy or indian, construction worker, I don't know.  I haven't decided yet.  Something will strike me sooner or later.

New Hot Wheels added to my collection

Lately, I have been picking up some of the Retro Collection Hot Wheels.   This last week, I picked up Mrs. Brady's station wagon.

I am debating on opening it.  I really love the whole look of the  packaging.  But,  I am just one of those collectors that loves to touch and feel everything.   The rest of my cars are open, so this one might eventually end up the same way.

I am trying to figure out a better way to display my open Hot Wheels.   But, I just haven't found anything that I like.   I would appreciate it anyone out there shared their display of Hot Wheels.

The last item I am adding to my car collection is something that I have had for a while.   There recently was an auction on Ebay, that I have been obsessing over all week. I wanted to buy it, but that wont happen unless I win the lottery.    The auction was for a Dumbo car!   A Dumbo car from Disney World!   How awesome would it be to own a freakin Dumbo car?    So until I win the lottery, I have to settle for the next best thing.

I have had this little Dumbo car packed away for a while.   I purchased it sometime in the late 90's at Disney World.   I decided that it needed to be displayed with my other vehicles.

I am still looking for the Muppet's bus and Magnum's Ferrari.   There are several cars in the 6th and 7th wave that I know I will want to pick up also.

I broke down and bought a China Girl doll

About 2 weeks ago, we took the whole family to see Oz the Great and Powerful.  As a general rule, I am anti 3D.  I just feel like it is a scam to boost movie grosses.   But, my husband thinks that it is worth it for most movies.  We spent an exorbitant amount of money to take 4 people to see a matinee movie and some snacks.  I    digress.

The movie is visually stunning.   I do have to say that this is one of the rare occasions that paying extra for 3D was actually a good idea.   The story was good, but my only objection really is the pace of the movie.  I felt it was a little slow.

I had seen the different Oz dolls sitting on the shelves at Target and Toys R Us a couple of weeks before the
movie opened.   The China Girl doll has just been speaking to me.  Every time I saw her, I would stop and look at her.  I was just so drawn to her.   Well after seeing the movie, I was completely in love with her!  For me, she was the best character in the movie.  She reminded me a lot of both of my daughters.   If you haven't seen the movie yet, I don't want to give much away.

Since I had a couple of gift cards I decided that I would just break down and buy her.   She is beautifully detailed with cracks on her arms and legs.   Her dress is a soft satin like fabric with  ribbon and lace detailing.

It took about 20 minutes to decide if I was going to open her or leave her in the box.   I just couldn't do it.  I had to open her.  Both of my girls have had their turns toting her around today,  And, I was surprised when my son was excited by her purchase.  But, he really did like the character in the movie too.

Since I have been going through some Monster High withdrawals waiting for new dolls to show up,  China Girl has helped fill the void.   Priced around $20 she is well worth it.

Thrift Find- Books, Books, and more books

The bags of fun have really been stinking it up. I know I have been complaining about this in my last few posts, but the bags have just been bad.   Where have all the good action figures gone?   Is no one's mother cleaning out their attics, garages, or kid's bedrooms?

Well, while the bags are terrible, the book section is on fire!  Last week, I picked up the vintage movie tie in E.T. novel.     On Monday, I picked up the  2 Golden Books pictured.

I love the Disney book but, I am most excited about the Rocky and Bullwinkel book.   How often to do you see Rocky and Bullwinkel anything?  It is kind of like Gumby.  There isn't enough Gumby in the world.   (Gumby is like a secret obsession I will have to write about at a later date.)

I used to love that cartoon as a kid. It was on in the mornings while I would be getting ready for school.    I don't know why I liked it so much.  Looking back it was really kind of stupid, but I guess as kids we didn't know any better,

My son has really gotten into the Goosebumps book series.   So any time I find those books at the Goodwill,
I pick them up.   I found 3 that he didn't have.    Calling all Creeps, Monster Blood, and the one in the middle is kind of like the which way books.   Whenever I see them, I try to pick them up because he reads them so quickly.

Lastly, my daughter picked out  2 books for herself.  I really love the I -Spy and the "Can You See What I See?"  by Walter Wick.   A few years ago, our local library hosted an event and Walter Wick was one of the speakers.   He gave a talk about how he got started with the I-Spy books, his collection of toys and objects, and how he goes about staging the different photographs.   It was a really interesting lectures and it really made me appreciate his books even more.

For a grand total of $3, I am really happy with the books we picked up.

Custom dress for Rosetta

Last week, I picked up 2 naked Disney fairy dolls.   Since it was on President's Day, everything was half off at the Goodwill.  I got the pair for a $1.   Otherwise, I probably would have passed on them.

I had originally tried to sell the pair of dolls but the buyer I had found decided not to get them.   I was going to re-donate them but my little girl liked them.    I decided I would go ahead and try to restore them.   The Silver Mist doll is in better condition then Rosetta.   I bought Silver Mist's original dress from a member of a doll group I belong to.   It should arrive in a few days.

Rosetta is the one who need a little bit of work.   She had fallen victim to a bad hair cut.  So I started out getting her hair styled.  It took a little work, but I evened out her hair as best I could.
The doll still had its original tights, however there was a little tear on the seam.   It was easy to repair.
I made her a tutu  dress out of tulle and used a scrap piece of sequined black fabric to create the top.      The Winx accessory pack (pictured above)  is another Goodwill find.  I  gt it for .$50.  I removed the peg that holds the wings in place on a Winx doll and glued the wings to Rosetta's back. Once the wings were in place, I dressed her.   She is wearing the black boots from the Novi Star fashion pack (another Goodwill find, $1.50)

Overall, I think she turned out well. I can't decide if I like her skirt long or if I should shorten it.   I guess I will let my daughter decide.  I know that she will be surprised in the morning when she sees the finished Rosetta.

Flea Market Find- Harry Potter, Disney lunchbox, and the batmobile

I thought I would share a few of my recent flea market finds.  I picked these up 2 weekends ago at a flea market up in NC.

The first is a vintage 1976  Disney World metal lunch box.  It is in well used condition.  But I just absolutely fell in love with it.  I should take some more pictures of it. The back has this great graphic of the Country Bears.  The sides depict different rides and dattractions at Disney World.   I paid $8 for it.  I think it will make a great display/storage piece.

The next item I picked up was the  Wizard's Sweets Harry Potter doll.  It is from 2001.  I didn't really start collecting anything Harry Potter related until about 2 years ago.  I picked up a Hagrid and a few other action figure from the first movie at the flea market.    I paid $2 for this Harry.  I love it because he comes with a chocolate frog package and a little frog bracelet that sadly no longer smells like chocolate.   I would love to find the matching Hermione doll.

Lastly, is the Batmobile!   I picked this up at Walmart.  I love Batman and yes, this chick does dig the car.   I recently started picking up the Hot Wheels that are from movies and tv.   I also have the A-Team van and Ecto 1.   I am currently looking for the other versions of the Batmobile and Kitt from Knight Rider.

Thrift Finds: Hallmark ornaments and superhero tots

Last weekend, we went to 2 of our local Goodwill stores trying to find a few pieces that would be useful to put the finishing touches on all of the children's Halloween costumes.   I guess it was a good day at the Goodwill because we actually found everything that was on our list.

Of course, while I am there, I can not pass up looking through the "Bags of Fun" for vintage toys.

This time no toys were really found, just some great Christmas ornaments that I will happily add to our tree.

The 2 carousel animals do not have any makers information that I can find.  I was hoping that I would be able to get more information on them.

The 2 Little Mermaid ornaments are Hallmark.  The first one I believe is the 2009 "Merry Coral Christmas Tree"  It is missing some parts, but I don't think it is terribly noticeable.
The second ornament is from 1997.   I recognized it right away, because I actually already owned one of these ornaments.

The Daisy Duck ornament is from 2000.  It is the Disney Baton Twirler and is #4 in the series.

I also found this Super Hero, Supergirl Tot.   These were kid's meal toys that were given out at Sonic restaurants back in the summer.   I am still looking for the Wonder Woman, Hawkgirl, and Aquaman.
